Interior

Trä sauna experience will arrive one hour ahead of the booked sauna time. The wood burning stove will be lit, robes and towels will be laid out. Every detail will be taken care of to ensure the best possible private spa experience.
Before your sauna time begins, we will share our knowledge and preferred method of sauna bathing. During your sauna time we will ensure optimal sauna conditions are maintained without being intrusive. The experience itself is best described in person and yours to discover.
After your Trä experience you have one job - continue to relax and enjoy your Trä gift package. We will seamlessly take down the sauna experience and leave until next time!
We can work together to develop a unique sauna that fits your vision for design and function. Every sauna can be customized to fit your taste. Even our pre-designed saunas have multiple material options and upgrades.
Developing a custom design begins with a consultation. Our first priority is ensuring that the type of sauna we build, aligns with our customer’s needs and wants. We feel very strongly about building high end authentic style saunas. Whether it is a wood burning stove or electric stove, all of our saunas are built to create a dry heat between 70-120 degrees Celsius. A critical component of all our saunas is their ability to create löyly (Finnish word for steam). Löyly is created by pouring water on the stones that are placed on top of the stoves. Both wood burning and electric stoves have sauna specific rocks that provide the intense heat needed for löyly. If löyly is what your after, you’ve found the right builder.
The next step is discussing the specifics of your sauna building. This includes: sauna size, shape, interior layout, stove selection (wood burning or electric), exterior siding options, roof cladding options, interior wood choices, door design and lighting options. We work efficiently to develop a custom sauna design that meets our customer’s needs.
Once we have discussed the specifics of your design, we will address shipping and transportation. From there we produce a quote tailored to your design.

Foundation
All sauna cabins require a solid foundation for support. Multiple foundation systems are available, and we’ll work to ensure the best option is selected for each project. We do offer foundation installation services depending on project location.
Floor Construction
Floors are framed with 2” x 6” brown treated joists and beams. All structural members are screwed, nailed and glued to ensure structural integrity. Floor framing is covered with ¾” pressure treated plywood.
Wall Construction
Sauna walls are framed with 2” x 4” spf (spruce – pine – fir) lumber and sheathed with 3/8” plywood. Stud cavities are filled with R14 Roxul insulation and the interior is covered with an aluminum foil heat and vapour barrier.
Roof Construction
Roof rafters are framed with 2” x 6” spf (spruce – pine – fir) lumber and are hand cut for each sauna design. R22 Roxul insulation fills the ceiling cavity, and the interior ceiling is covered with aluminum foil heat and vapour barrier.
Window and Doors
All glass placed in our saunas is manufactured specifically for high temperature environments. Door options for each sauna includes: fully glazed doors, red cedar with glazed panels and solid cedar doors. Custom window sizes are available for each sauna.
Building Envelope
The building envelope is an essential part of any building that separates the interior conditioned space from the exterior. We employ best construction practices that go above and beyond national building codes. Our exterior walls are covered with Tyvek water proofing membrane, this layer serves as a drainage plane and adds a second layer moisture protection behind the HardiePlank siding. We apply Dupont FlexWrap to all window and door jambs and ensure all exterior membranes and flashings are layered correctly. Our sauna buildings are truly built to last a lifetime and moisture control and mitigation are an essential part or our sauna design strategy.
Exterior Siding
HardiePlank and HardieShingle siding are the chosen products we clad our exterior sauna walls with. Maintenance free, fire resistant, hail-damage resistant, 30 year product warranties, and endless colour options make Hardie Board siding the perfect fit for our sauna exteriors.
Roofing
We have two options for our sauna roofs: asphalt shingles or seamless metal roof panels. Aesthetics and budget help direct customers choice.
